Gateway Family Services became a Roots HR client in October 2012 after a full time HR Business Partner left. HR work was devolved within the organisation and advice services were outsourced to us on a retained basis through our COMPLY service. The service is provided to a number of managers and leaders who are authorised by Gateway to access HR support.
The organisation has used their COMPLY subscription for a wide variety of HR support including salary benchmarking, policy reviews, sickness absence, performance management and a number of employee matters. Additionally, Roots HR conduct the organisation’s exit interviews, providing an external interview by phone and report to the organisation. More recently, Roots HR have added value by proactively identifying unusual legislative matters that may be relevant to specific contracts delivered by the organisation, and advising and reporting on these specialist areas.
Gateway have engaged well with Roots HR and have derived good levels of benefit from the relationship, such as a member of staff attending a free Essential HR workshop in January ’14 as a delegate, a course provided for free through Roots HR trading surpluses.
“We renewed our COMPLY subscription for a second year because we found Roots HR to be good value for our business and to understand our sector. The service is easy to access and consultants are very available, by both phone and email. We have worked with a number of the Roots HR team members and have found the advice and approach to be of a consistently high standard.”

Jan Golding, Chief Executive of Roots HR says,
“The culture and wide range of services at Gateway Family Services means that managers seek practical advice when they contact us that will help them to balance the needs of their employees with the needs of the organisation. We are delighted to hear that we succeed in doing this and that we are valued as a partner to the organisation. We can think of other ways in which we can help this innovative and dynamic organisation to do even more for the communities it serves through the workforce it engages and look forward to doing that as the relationship progresses”.
