Charity & Social Sector

At Roots HR we are seeing our colleagues within the sector handling the following challenges, and we’ve briefly highlighted some steps that may benefit your organisation.

1. Attracting and retaining top talent

Attracting and retaining top talent remains a challenge within many sectors, not just the social sector.  With low unemployment rates and a highly competitive job market, some organisations are struggling to find and keep the best employees. You may want to consider focusing on developing and implementing effective recruitment strategies, reviewing existing employee benefits offerings (flexibility and access to guidance and support in maintaining good mental health and financial wellbeing are important to employees following the COVID-19 pandemic and in the face of increasing cost of living) and creating a positive workplace culture.

Contact us on 01562 840060 or via info@https://www.rootshr.org.uk if you need support in this area!

2. Managing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)

With increased attention on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) issues in the workplace, HR professionals in the UK are facing the challenge of creating inclusive work environments that foster belonging for employees from different backgrounds. You should consider developing and implementing DEI policies, training for managers and employees on DEI, and ensuring that DEI issues flow through all your HR policies and processes.

Check out our range of learning and development services here.

3. Navigating changing employment laws and regulations

HR professionals need to stay up to date on the latest developments to ensure their organisations remain compliant.

A great way to do this is through our Quarterly Employment Law Newsletter and schedule of webinars.

4. Managing employee mental health and well-being (Mental Health Awareness Week)

Mental health and well-being have become key considerations for employees within the social sector, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Consider how your organisation can create a supportive work environment, offer mental health resources and support, such as an Employee Assistance Programme, and implement wellness programs to promote employee well-being.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, take a look at our recent webinar on Mental Health at Work

5. Increasing use of technology and data analytics

Advances in technology and data analytics can support HR professionals in analysing workforce data, automate some administrative tasks, and enhance decision-making.

Find out if you may benefit from an HR Information System like BreatheHR.

Introducing the HR network for UK charities and non-profits

Social sector HR professionals are clearly facing a range of challenges, this is why Roots HR have established the HR network for UK charities and non-profits – an online community for UK HR professionals working in charities, social enterprises and other not-for-profit organisations to start and join in discussions about relevant issues that impact on HR in the social sector.

Join us to ask questions, participate in discussions, support other HR professionals and grow your professional network!

We look forward to seeing you in the group!
