About Us
What is a Social Enterprise?
Social enterprises are commonly defined as "...businesses with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or community, rather than being driven by the need to maximise profit for shareholders and owners".
Social enterprises are businesses that:
- trade for social and/or environmental purposes
- reinvest profit back into the business or other related activities
- have ownership and governance structures based on participation and not for personal gain
- compete in the market like any other business
